Well, what about the wonderfully vibrant Murano glass? Italian made Jewellery that’s full of class.
Murano glass has been made for centuries on the Venetian Island of, you’ve guessed it, Murano. It’s located off the shores of Venice and glass making was moved there in the late 13th. century.
The reason being that the extreme heat required in the glass-making process posed a serious fire hazard to the mainly wooden buildings of Venice.
By the 14th. century the glass makers of Murano were very special indeed. They were allowed to wear swords, were immune from prosecution by the Venetian State and their daughters married into the most affluent families of Venice. The one downside was they were not allowed to leave the Republic!
So, with such a fascinating and colourful history, no wonder Murano Glass is just as special now as it was then.
