We are pleased to announce Two brand new boutique collections from young British jeweller Ellie Air inspired and influenced by the historic city of Florence, Italy.
At the beginning of 2013 Lauren Rowden – under pseudonym of Ellie Air – travelled to Florence to train in contemporary jewellery design at the prestigious Alchimia School.
Previously self-taught, in Florence Lauren acquired a host of new skills (and un-learned a few bad habits!) under the watchful and experienced eyes of Marcia Rossi and Daniela Boieri.
On her return to rainy cold England, Lauren couldn’t help but be inspired. She gutted her work bench, spent a whole months wages on new tools and rebuilt her entire process from the ground up.
The resulting collections respond to her time in Italy for different reasons:
The ‘Fiocco’ Collection was inspired by the intricate designs of Fiorentini jewellery, focusing on interlinking hand-made chains. This collection also embraces the relationships between metal and the finer material of ribbon. All the designs in this collection are limited edition, most of ten but some of just three. ‘Fiocco’ is Italian for ‘bow’.
The ‘Roccia’ Collection uses new skills Ellie learnt in Florence incorporating raw minerals and gemstones. Each piece of jewellery in this collection is entirely one of a kind, as no two stones are the same. Each piece’s encasement or clasp has then been designed especially for that specific stone. The minerals, gemstones and rocks used in this collection were all collected on Ellie’s travels around the world. ‘Roccia’ is Italian for ‘rock’.
