Topaz Magpie Jewellery is based in a 350 year old farmhouse overlooking the ocean in south Cornwall and is run by Ailsa Poll.
Ailsa’s ideas and inspiration come from the natural world in her corner of Cornwall and her Northumbrian home: the views from the coastal path, the local beaches, the ocean, woodland, moorland, wildlife and folk tales.
Each item of jewellery created is handmade from precious metal and will be a unique piece which you won’t find anywhere else; designs are often embellished with sea glass found in Cornwall, or natural gemstones.
Communicating with customers on commissioned pieces is a favourite part of the process for Ailsa; designing something individual, personal and desired gives a particular sense of satisfaction.
Ailsa’s interest in jewellery is a long-held one, but she only took the step to start making a few years ago; prior to that her creativity was expressed through sewing and calligraphy.
Before coming to jewellery making Ailsa spent time studying, taking MAs in English Literature and Librarianship, working as a librarian in further and higher education, and as a yoga teacher.
